Data Export

Data export lets you download a copy of the information you keep in Artlope.

Artlope creates one zip file that combines your uploaded files with readable Markdown files for your records.

This is useful when you want:

  • a copy of your records outside Artlope
  • a backup you can keep for your own archive
  • files you can open and read without needing special software

Open Settings, then go to Security.

Open the Data export section and click Download data export.

Artlope then prepares the export and starts the download automatically.

While the export is being prepared, a small window tells you that the file is being generated. Keep the tab open until the download starts.

The export includes readable Markdown files for:

  • your profile
  • your artworks
  • your exhibitions
  • your submissions
  • your portfolios
  • your finances

The export also includes the files connected to those records, such as:

  • profile photo
  • artwork images
  • exhibition photos
  • uploaded attachments

The Markdown files include the details stored in Artlope for each item.

Depending on the record, this can include things such as:

  • descriptions and statements
  • dates
  • prices and finance information
  • selected artworks
  • comments
  • links to related files inside the export

Inside the zip file, you will find a simple folder structure:

  • profile.md
  • artworks/
  • exhibitions/
  • submissions/
  • portfolios/
  • finances/
  • files/

profile.md contains your profile information in one file.

The artworks, exhibitions, submissions, and portfolios folders contain one Markdown file for each record.

The finances folder contains one Markdown file for each year.

The files folder contains the images and uploaded files that are linked from the Markdown files.

In most cases, the Markdown file names are based on the name of the artwork, exhibition, submission, or portfolio so they are easier to recognize later.

Markdown is a simple text format.

You can open these files in many note apps, text editors, or document tools, and they stay readable even without Artlope.

Each Markdown file is meant to help you understand the record in plain text while still keeping links to the related images and files inside the same export.
